Commemorating Dr. Schofield’s Selection as Independence Patriot of the Month of March 2016 and
the Hundredth Anniversary of His Visit to Korea
Nationwide Essay Contest
Dr. Frank William Schofield, the ‘34th representative’ who took the lead for Korea’s independence, by capturing in pictures the scene of March 1st Movement and the damage at Jeam-ri in 1919 to tell the world. He was a world-famous veterinarian, an educator who raised the next generation, a friend to the Korean people in suffering, a pioneer like a tiger who fought against injustice and corruption, a man like a warm dove who took care of the poor and orphans.
2016 is the hundredth year since Dr. Schofield first set foot on Korea. In particular, on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the March 1st Movement in 2016, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has selected Dr. Schofield as the Independence Patriot of the Month. Hence as part of a nationwide project to commemorate the 100th anniversary Dr. Schofield’s visit to Korea, we are holding an essay contest to dream of the society Dr. Schofield dreamt of, a society of consideration and tolerance, just and without corruption. We request the participation of many people.
